Human Being Active

Today it starts .... hmmm well actually it started yesterday at the grand weigh-in!

So, ... am I going to bore you and embarrass myself with totally useless statistics and other (yawn) "related info?" ... absolutely YES

But first what is this ... "the continuation of my Life's Journey" ... well it's my life as a 40 something, almost ex-athlete, trying to put some va-va-voom back into his body, mind and soul; which has been used and abused to the point of meltdown over the last few decades!

Why ... because I need it; I have hid away for far too long and now this is a chance to make a positive change  for myself, and hopefully become a better human being for those around me.

How ... all aspects of my lifestyle will be scrutinised ... like a germ under the microscope; no not that bad, but elements of my day to day life will be looked at, to see what can be done to make a difference.

This is not just about getting fit and losing weight, but even more important is  to put balance back into my life and to help show others, what can be done with time and a little patience. Patience ... something I "don't" have in abundance.

I will be looking at nutrition, exercise, rest, other lifestyle attributes and things that I believe are good for the soul and will help introduce more calm, balance and meaning into my world.

So enough of the introductory waffle and lets get down to the nitty-gritty  ...

Day ... 1

By the way .. because I am still lazy, this will be a weekly (perhaps a little more frequent) entry into my BLOG ... (journal) for now.

Weighed in ... and officially confirmed I am FAT ... aaarrrggghhh ... years of self denial have worked wonders on the lipocyte front!

Ok wait for it .... I am 17st 4lbs ... which would not be bad for an ageing rugby prop still playing for a local seconds team, but is way too heavy for me. Even at 6" 1.5" (note the extra 0.5") I am carrying way too much surplus flesh.

I should put one of those embarrassing "before pictures" in here, but for now it's reserved for the fridge door!

And worse still are my vital statistics ... I can't believe I am letting the whole world know this!!!

Waist: - 44"
Chest: - 48"
Shoulders: - 49.5"
Upper Arms: - 15"
Upper Thighs:- 28"

Resting heart rate: - 58 beats per minute

BMI: - 31 (almost 32)

I will add more stats to this when time permits, it's still enough of a slap to show that something needs to be done now.

Fitness: - Not too good ... heavily reliant on core fitness built up "in the glory days".

My current state of calm is "ok" but I know I am searching for more ...

So this is the stake in the ground, at the starting point before moving forward ... and a long way forward I must go, if I really have the ambition and courage to do something about myself ... and possibly help encourage others.

So I will sign off for now and come back soon to let you know how things are going ... please wish me luck!

Next Time ...

  • The positives and the urrmmm ... negatives
  • Me exercising, not exercising ... ha
  • How little porridge I actually need
  • Is yoga good for podgy people
  • Prune juice, is it just for the elderly!
  • I used to be a good runner ...
  • My family and me!
  • Perhaps some before pictures ... if I am brave enough
